The Kogi State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed the death of five persons while four were severely injured when an articulated truck rammed into a passenger at Oro junction, Okene area of the state.
The accident was said to have occurred due to failed brake on Monday evening at around 7.30 pm.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that more people would have been killed or suffered severe injuries but the car which served as a brake prevented it from getting to the people sitting down the road leading to Ageva.
The state sector commander of FRSC, Steve Dawulong, in a response to our correspondent’s inquiry said, “Sorry, I just got to see your message now. I have some days off but can tell you that a crash actually occurred at about 730pm at Oro junction, Okene where a truck failed to brake and rammed into a passenger car from the rear resulting in the death of four persons (3 males and 1 female) with four others injured,”
According to him, “The corpses were taken to Okengwe General Hospital Mortuary while the injured were taken by their respective families.”
While sympathising with victims and their families, Dawulong advised fleet operators to have viable maintenance policies which should be adhered to strictly as means of ensuring routine maintenance and Vehicle roadworthiness before putting such vehicles on the road.
