Following Ghana’s hard-fought 3-2 win over South Korea in their second Group H match at the Education City Stadium in Al-Rayyan on Monday, a host of fans took to social media to take a swipe at the Super Eagles, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Mohammed Kudus scored twice, including the go-ahead goal after South Korea evened the match in the second half, and Ghana staved off elimination at the World Cup.
Mohammed Salisu scored the opener for the Black Stars, who lost their opening match against Portugal, and were in need of points for a chance to reach the knockout round in Qatar.
Down 2-0, Cho Geu-sung scored both of South Korea’s goals about three minutes apart early in the second half to even the game at 2-2. But Kudus’ low left-footed goal in the 68th minute sailed out of the reach of goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu to give the Black Stars back the lead.
Ghana denied the Super Eagles the World Cup ticket after edging their arch-rivals 1-1 on aggregate on the away-goal rule last March.
Prior to the kick-off of the World Cup in Qatar, the Eagles were humiliated 4-0 by Portugal in a friendly encounter, the same opponents, who marginally defeated the Black Stars 3-2 in their opening game in Group H.
Immediately after they dug deep to defeat South Korea on Monday, fans, while praising the Otto Addo-led side, doubted if the Nigerian squad would have survived the group.
Devoyce, a Twitter user wrote, “Nigeria won’t have won any game in this Ghana’s Group. At most, they’d get a point from a possible nine.”
Responding to Devoyce post, Olusola Olanrewaju said, “Same thing going through my mind. Would Super Eagles have performed better than any of these African countries at the World Cup?”
Ikay Dimitri added, “I’m a Nigerian but let’s give credit when it’s due, these guys (Ghana) proved themselves today.”
Sleekjhames tweeted, “Thank God we no go this WC, coz na war be this o.”
“Ghana is that team at the World Stage; they have that dawg in them. Naija can’t relate at all,” Your Neighbor added.
