A man, Gabriel Samson, has been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly attempting to abduct a five-year-old boy in the Ago area of the state.
A source in the area, told our correspondent that Samson was attacked by a mob who caught him in the act, adding that they were on the brink of lynching Samson when policemen from the Ago Police Station, stormed the scene and rescued him.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said after Samson was rescued and taken to the station, he behaved erratically during interrogation, adding that his sister, Queen, when contacted, confirmed that he was of unsound mind.
He said, “The police received an information on November 24, 2022, around 8am, that somebody is about to be lynched on Nwachukwu drive. The divisional officer of the Ago-Okota led a team of police officers to the scene and arrested a man who later identified himself as Gabriel Samson.
“He was taken to the station alongside a woman who said the suspect wanted to steal her five-year-old boy from her room. Upon getting to the station, the suspect was unable to give a statement on the allegations levelled against him but was behaving like a person of unsound mind.
“After much interrogation, he said he came to the compound where he was alleged to have wanted to kidnap the boy to check for his sister called Queen. He provided her contact and she was called. She confirmed that the suspect is of unsound mind and has been so for the past six years and that the family has tried all they could do but to no avail.”
Hundeyin said the suspect was transferred to the police headquarters for further investigation.
