The Beeta Arts Festival, which is dedicated to amplifying African stories, Festival, has returned this year to connect communities and creators through a three day convergence of theatre, exhibitions, film, music, dance, food and lifestyle events. The festival, which holds in Abuja, started on Friday, December 2, and will end on Sunday, December 4, 2022.
According to a statement sent to Merrymakers, the festival was borne out of the inspiration to tell African stories, and to be the largest art incubator event in Africa. The first edition of the art festival held in 2021, and had attendees from six African countries.
This year’s festival, themed ‘Art Connects’, is in collaboration with the Multichoice Talent Factory, Ebonylife Creative Academy, as well as TASCK— a social impact organisation founded by rapper, Jude Abaga, aka MI. It will feature workshops and conversations between creators, performers and exhibitionists from several African countries.
The festival’s founder, Bikiya Graham-Douglas, noted that this year, they pulled out all the stops in order to create an immersive experience, that will help to reach a wider audience, physically and digitally.
She added, “With the new global positioning of Africans, now more than ever, young Africans are focused on their identity. We have witnessed this with the increase in consumption of African arts and culture, with emphasis on Nigerian content.
The festival’s producer, Olarotimi Fakunle, also added that the festival was a creative campaign curated to encourage interaction and collaborations in African creativity, showcasing existing talent, bridging the gap between new and existing players, and creating new audiences for rich African stories.”
