When singer, Oluwatobiloba Anidugbe, aka Kizz Daniel, released the hit song, Buga, little did he know it would travel all over the world, and be enjoyed by many.
Since its release in May 2022, the song has enjoyed massive airplay, and has become an anthem of sorts, as many sing it word-for-word whenever it is played at events.
As a testament to the popularity of the song, Daniel recently performed it at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Back home in Nigeria in particular, and Africa at large, many top personalities have caught the bug, as quite a number of prominent political figures have either sang the song, or danced to it in public. Society Plus takes a look at some of those personalities
Yemi Osinbajo
The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, surprised many at the United Nations World Tourism Organisation global conference held in Iganmu, Lagos State, when he gave a rendition of the hit song.
Speaking at the event, the vice president told the audience, drawn from different parts of the world, that music was a global language that people could enjoy, even without understanding the lyrics.
He had said, “Music, as we all know, is a global language. Even those who don’t know the meaning of the words in a song can enjoy the rhythm. Also, some are motivated to find out the meaning of the lyrics, discovering the cultures and ideas that inspire them in the process.
As he sang the song, Osinbajo, urged the audience to join him in the rendition, even as he displayed the viral dance move associated with the song.
After his dance moves, Osinbajo said, “Today, Nigerian music rendered in different languages is played all over the world. People all over the world are dancing to that song, Buga, by Kizz Daniel.”
Femi Gbajabiamila
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, was spotted in August dancing to the song during a constituency meeting held in Surulere, Lagos.
While encouraging those in attendance to vote in the forthcoming elections, he urged them to show their permanent voter’s cards, even as he danced enthusiastically to the song.
George Weah
In June 2022, a video clip of the President of Liberia, George Weah, dancing to Buga in front of a packed audience went viral on the Internet.
Although, a former footballer, Weah showed that aside from playing football and piloting the affairs of Liberia, he also likes to dance. He showed off his dance steps to the song, even as the large crowd of Liberians before him, cheered him on.
Ademola Adeleke
Fondly called the ‘dancing Senator’, the newly sworn in Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, thrilled a teeming crowd of Osun residents with the signature Buga dance steps.
Adeleke, who is well known for his dancing prowess, attracted cheers from the audience who urged him to continue entertaining them with his dance steps.
Adeleke has never hidden his desire and love for dancing, as he had stated in the past that he taught his nephew Davido Adeleke aka Davido how to dance.
