A 75-year-old man, Mohammadu Sheshi, has regained freedom two months after being abducted.
Sheshi, who is a native of Enagi in the Enati Local Government Area of Niger State, was said to have been kidnapped in October alongside others along the Birnin Gwari-Kaduna Road.
The septuagenarian was said to have spent two months in kidnappers’ den in the Dansadau axis of Zamfara State before he eventually got rescued.
The spokesperson for Zamfara State Police Command, Mohammed Shehu explained on Saturday that the victim was rescued on Friday after receipt of the information about the abduction.
According to him, police operatives launched a rescue operation leading to Sheshi being rescued alive.
The PPRO added that the old man had been reunited with his family after undergoing a proper medical checkup at a police clinic facility in Gusau, the state capital.
He said, “On 2nd December 2022, the Zamfara State Police Command rescued 75-year-old Mohammadu Sheshi, a native of Enagi in Edati LGA of Niger State. The rescue operation was conducted following the receipt of the intelligence report regarding the abduction of the victim.
“The victim informed the police that he was abducted early October, 2022 by a large number of armed bandits who blocked the Birnin Gwari-Kaduna Road and took him and others into the bush somewhere in the Dansadau axis of Zamfara State and he spent two months in captivity.
“The victim, while at the Police Command Headquarters, Gusau, was medically checked at the police clinic facility and later reunited with his family/relations.”
