Operatives of the Dragon Patrol team of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered two pistols from them.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the security operatives on stop-and-search duty along Warri/Sapele road on December 8, 2022, at about 1630hrs, intercepted a black GLK Mercedes Benz SUV with registration number BEN-734-EZ conveying two male occupants for a routine search.
It was gathered that when a search was conducted on the car and the passengers, one Barreta pistol and one locally made revolver pistol were recovered.
The two suspects, one Joshua Oweke, aged 35 years of Gbulebu community in Edo State and Nicolas Binakeye, also aged 25 years of First Road, Akenfa in Bayelsa State were instantly arrested.
The Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, while confirming the incident stated that the exhibits recovered are presently in custody just as an investigation is ongoing in the matter.
In another development, on December 6, 2022, the State Police Command reportedly got an intelligence report which revealed that a syndicate that unlawfully deals in the sales of cartridges to cultists and armed robbers were hibernating in the Boboroku community in Jesse, Ethiope West Local Government Area, where they carry out their nefarious activities.
Acting on the report, the Commissioner of Police for the State Command, CP Ari Muhammed Ali directed the Command’s raiders squad to carry out a sting operation on the said hideout.
In compliance with this directive, the Commander Raider’s Squad detailed operatives who stormed the hideout at Boboroku Jesse, and arrested one Victoria Willams and two others, all from the Boboroku community in Jesse and 130 live cartridges were recovered.
The PPRO also affirmed that an investigation is ongoing into the matter.
Also on December 6, 2022, at about 2230hrs, operatives of Eagle-net Special Squad deployed to Ughelli in Ughelli North LGA for the purpose of visibility policing and to complement the efforts of the Divisions in the area, received a distress call from a victim (name withheld), that his Lexus salon car with reg no. JRT670X ash colour was snatched at gunpoint by three armed hoodlums who were heading towards the Ughelli axis.
The policemen immediately swung into action, trailed the fleeing hoodlums and the unrelenting effort of the operatives paid off when the suspects on noticing that the security team were closing in on them, abandoned the car and escaped into the bush at Ewu near Otu-Jeremi, Ughelli South LGA.
The operatives recovered the vehicle while a manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing.
