A 46-year-old Uber driver, Andrew Okhulegbe, who was diagnosed with a heart condition, Acute Myocardial Infarction, has sought help to raise funds for surgery.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Andrew had been battling the ailment since February 18, 2022.
He was said to have been diagnosed with the condition at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital following four days of pain on the left side of his chest.
A medical report obtained by our reporter revealed that he would undergo the surgery at the Tristate Health Care System, Lagos State, which would cost a total sum of N6m.
The graduate of Business Administration, University of Lagos, Akoka, who spoke to our correspondent from his hospital bed, said, “My child and wife are young. I beg both state and non-state actors to come to my aid.
“I used to be a hard-working man, dedicated to my job from which I provided for my family. But now, I cannot even raise a limb and it hurts to see my wife suffer alone.”
His wife, Maris Okhuelegbe, said, “My husband is going through a lot of pain and I do not want to lose him. Nigerians should please assist us.”
One of the doctors in charge of his treatment, Ogbonnaya Ogechukwu, confirmed his condition.
He said, “Andrew is currently on admission and his case requires urgent treatment. Ninety-nine per cent of his arteries are blocked, so blood does not flow into the right parts.
“This surgery will help create artificial arteries, in layman’s terms, which will enable blood to continue to flow into other parts of his body.”
Our correspondent also cited a report from the hospital signed by the Chairman, Division of Cardiology, Tristate Healthcare System, Karma Adeleke, confirming the situation.
