The Nigerian Red Cross Society has distributed food items to 1,350 households affected by the recent flood disaster in Delta State.
The National President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Chief Bolaji Anani who presented the items at the flagged-off ceremony of the 2022 flood intervention at Ewoma Primary School, Ivrogbor-Irri Isoko South local government area of the state.
Anani stated that the Society carried out the registration, using the prescribed selection criteria, developed with members of the communities, which was used to identify the most vulnerable persons to benefit from the intervention.
He said, “The Red Cross Society planned to distribute relief items or cash to about 180,000 flood-affected persons in 23 most affected states, totalling 29,700 households.
“The first phase of the distribution is simultaneously flagged off in Delta and Kogi States.
“I want to use this occasion to thank those who donated, those who would still donate and all who had contributed in one way or the other to make the exercise a success.”
In his remark, the Local Government Council Chairman, Mr Victor Asassa, represented by Mr Issac Omoyero, thanked the Society for identifying with persons in his local government area and coming to their rescue.
Also, the Community Chairman, Mr Christopher Ebegbare, thanked the Society for choosing his community for the flagged off of relief distribution in the state.
The 1,350 beneficiaries were Isoko South, Ndokwa East and Ughelli South local government areas got a 25kg bag of rice, a 25kg bag of garri, a 30kg bag of beans, and palm oil among others.
Some of the beneficiaries thanked the Nigerian Red Cross Society for the gesture and described it as unprecedented.
