Nkwegu stated this after inaugurating the 32-member campaign council in Abakaliki on Saturday.
According to him, the campaign council led by Ukpai will see to the day-to-day running of the governorship campaign of the party even as the 2023 elections draw nearer, adding that the appointment of the new chartered accountant to mount the saddle of the campaign council signals another milestone for the party at this political epoch.
“We just finished inaugurating members of the campaign council. This is what we have to do, because it’s very important for the party at this time.
“So, we congratulate Ukpai for his appointment. We will do our best to support him and with him, we are hopeful our party will come out victorious,” Nkwegu said.
Reacting, the new DG said he felt elated by the appointment, saying he was ready to serve and lead the party to victory at the polls.
Ukpai, who is a retired Auditor-General for local governments in Ebonyi State, said, “I feel elated. I feel grateful to God and to my principal, Arc. Edward Nkwegu, for this opportunity.
“For feeling I have the competence to drive this project of realising his governorship ambition in Ebonyi State of Nigeria, I’m grateful to my principal. I feel happy and I thank God and I call on other well-meaning Ebonyi people to join hands with us to realise this project.
“We are convinced that this project is worth pursuing. And by God’s grace, we will see what we can do to achieve this project given the antecedents, the competence and the capacity of our principal to drive the Ebonyi dream and realise the dreams of our founding fathers.”
