The Managing Director of John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy, Imuwahen Ajoonu, says the centre has embarked on the training of civil servants in Edo State to ensure they are better equipped and more effective in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking with The PUNCH on the just-concluded training for directors of Ministries, Departments & Agencies, Ajoonu said the training was in line with Governor Godwin Obaseki’s institutional reforms agenda for the state.
She said that the training was also aimed at strengthen the officials through capacity building.
She said, “What we have chosen to do with this training is to upskill and retool the civil service in the belief that this would strengthen the officials through capacity building. It will also ensure that they can effectively carry out their duties”
She added, “We brought in consultants to do some work and they produced a Culture Service Report, which enabled us to see some of the gaps within the system. The report dealt more with low stakeholders orientation and we are hoping to address that through training of our personnel.
“The last one we did was on critical thinking and problem-solving. We invited our directors from all our MDA’s and took them through a two-day learning experience on the subject matter. We piloted and experimented with gamification where the participants go online, log on and this also aligns with our e-governance policy.”
