It’ll be a big night for Nigerian and Turkish professional boxing on Saturday, February 11 in Istanbul, Turkey as the undefeated and current African Boxing Union champion Riliwan Lawal (16-0-0) of Nigeria goes to battle with the undefeated Tarik Sozer (13-0-0) of Turkey for the UBO Intercontinental Lightweight Title.
Lawal, who fights under Nigeria’s leading boxing promotional and management company, Saleh Gloves Promotions, is ready to take another big step in his professional career and in the rankings of world boxing by becoming the new UBO Intercontinental champion after being ranked No.36 featherweight in the world back in October by the World Boxing Council.
On the other hand, Sozer and his team believe he can defeat the Nigerian Army officer on home soil in Turkey come February.
Saleh Gloves Promotions boss, Saleh Fawaz, told our correspondent that they were ready for the fight and looking forward to a good showing after their last two attempts in Turkey were unfavourable.
“We are going to be ready and we will do our best to get a better outcome in Turkey this time around. We want to represent Nigeria in the best way possible and give the fans what they deserve. We cannot thank them enough. Our work in Nigerian and African boxing is on the rise, while our international work and network is expanding tremendously. This will also be an extension of our ever-growing relationships in Turkey and Europe among other continents; so winning is very important too come February,” Fawaz said.
