The family also sought the intervention of the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba, in the matter.
In a statement on Saturday, the family alleged that some top police officers in the state were dabbling into the matter and urged Buhari, Sanwo-Olu and the police boss to caution the said officers.
According to them, the officers are dragging the name of the IGP into the mud over land-grabbing activities.
The statement read, “The Ojomu family said that on 18th December 2022, some policemen chased away the owners of an 8223sqm landed property, and their workers from the site while some of the workers were arrested with the claims that they were acting on directives of a first generation bank.
“The property sold to ‘’Mr. Ibrahim’’ which was not part of what was sold to the bank belongs to the Ojomu Royal family poroku gazette which was confirmed by the Lagos State Governor, vide notice of Excision of Villages published in the official Gazette No 13, dated 29th day of August 2002, Vol. 35, signed by His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the time Executive Governor of Lagos State.
“After spending the night in police custody, the Ojomu Royal family was able to bail out the arrested 9 workers. Ever since then the police had remained on the site since December 18th, 2022 till date without leaving. They caution they will gun down anyone who moves close to the property of which our client Mr Ibrahim does not receive any invitation from the police or the bank nor any investigation was done before policemen were sent to take over the Chevron site. We see that as a lack of professionalism and one-sidedness.”
According to the statement, the royal family sold land directly to a now defunct bank and sold another part to Mr Ibrahim which is different from the one sold to the defunct bank which the ownership was later transferred the first generation bank.
“Why declare Mr Ibrahim that has spent over N700 million on a property a land grabber and wanted? The Ojomu Royal family categorically says that Mr Ibrahim is never a land grabber. This is a man known as a serial entrepreneur; He has an investment in real estate, having managed many estates in Lagos; health, oil and gas, tech, and airline investors. He has no criminal record not to talk of grabbing land.
“We have it on good authority that about N200 million has been spent by the bank to cause the current crisis despite the glaring record that the land belongs to the Ojomu Royal family.
“We call on the President, Governor Sanwo-Olu, and the IGP to intervene and bring the bank representative to appear alongside the Ojomu Royal family to resolve the issue rather than sending policemen to intimidate the landowners.
“The landowners are pleading with the Presidency, the IGP, and, the Governor of Lagos to ensure that justice is served for the landowners who have acted civilly and lawfully in the face of harassment and intimidation,” the statement read.
