The governorship candidate of All Progressive Congress in Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has denied either being arrested or invited for any explanation by the anti-graft agency, Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission.
Sokoto while addressing supporters of the party at the Mabera area of the state metropolis on Saturday evening denied ever being arrested, detained or even invited by any anti-graft agency over his performance while in office as Executive Secretary of Police Trust Fund.
Recall that some online media (not The PUNCH) had alleged that the APC chieftain was detained by ICPC over N12 billion fraud before being granted bail on behalf of another chieftain of the party with a promise to return to their office for further interrogation on Saturday, January 14, 2023.
Meanwhile, in a video currently going viral in the state, the governorship candidate described those who spread the rumour of his arrest as politicians, who are afraid of his rousing popularity.
Sokoto maintained that he has no reason whatsoever to be invited or arrested by any anti-graft agency, as according to him, he never performed any illegal thing while in office that can bring such an invitation.
“I decided not to say anything since the rumour broke out that I was asked to report back on January 14, or I will be arrested.
“Today is January 14, I have been moving up and down within Sokoto metropolis since the early morning of today expecting the arrest which never comes.
“I am now here in the Mabera community this evening and decided to tell them that all their rumour is because they are afraid of rising popularity among the people of the state.”
Sokoto, however, advised politicians to stop politics of bitterness or hatred and promote ideas.
