Nigeria international, Terem Moffi, may have played his last game for Lorient after a French publication, Mercato Plein, claimed that the forward has officially left the French club and joined West Ham United for a reported fee of £21m.
The Nigerian striker has been in fine form for the French outfits this season and has scored 12 goals in 18 Ligue 1 games making him the division’s joint second top scorer with Lille’s Jonathan David, and just one goal behind Paris Saint-Germain star and 2022 World Cup golden boot winner Kylian Mbappe.
A physical, fast and powerful forward, Moffi scored 35 goals in 90 games since his arrival in Brittany two years ago for an €8m fee.
Moffi was left out of the Lorient squad for their Coupe de France clash with Bastia on Saturday with the manager, Régis Le Bris, stating that the forward was left out of the game because he was recovering from illness.
The 23-year-old forward has been on the Hammers’ radar for a while but there have been disagreements on the fee between the Ligue 1 and Premier League club.
According to a post on Twitter by Mercato Plein, tt now seems as though a deal has been struck between Lorient and West Ham, with Moffi closing in on a move to England from France.
“OFFICIAL! Terem Moffi leaves Lorient and joins West Ham until 2026! The transfer is estimated at 24m€,” the publication wrote.
Le Bris recently admitted that Moffi is disturbed by speculation linking him with a departure from Les Merlus in the January transfer window.
The 23-year-old Moffi has eighteen months left on his contract with Lorient, whom he joined from Belgian team KV Kortrijk in 2020.
