Co-Founder and Group Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Healthgarde International, Mrs. Lovelyn Bassey has said that the brand is out to create a positive impact in Nigeria, Africa and the world.
As a result, she noted, they are poised to promote physical and financial wellness, and growing entrepreneurs but not as overnight millionaires.
In an exclusive interview with GATMASH NEWS at the 2023 convention of Healthgarde International held in Lagos over the weekend, Lovelyn Bassey noted that the place of women in the society cannot be downplayed adding that the rationale behind a South African as brand ambassador and offering pocket-friendly Healthgarde products are very paramount.
Bassey, while making clarifications about the 2023 convention said, “Every year, we have a convention. It’s an international convention where we recognize the top achievers in our company.
“This year, for the first time, we’ve got the top achiever and franchise owner in Uganda.”
With footprints and extensive inputs in seven African countries including South Africa, Uganda, Ghana, Cameron and a presence in the United States of America and the United Kingdom, Healthgarde recently unveiled Rugby World Cup champion, Tendai Mtawarira a.k.a ‘The Beast’ as its first brand partner and envoy.
Stating the idea behind the South African as an ambassador, Mrs. Bassey said “one of the things that we pride ourselves with in Healthgarde is that we’re not just a Nigerian company, but an African company. So, when we were looking for a brand ambassador, we wanted someone who is not just a Nigerian, but someone who would represent us on the continent of Africa, and also looking outside of Africa.
“And we also wanted that entrepreneurial spirit so it couldn’t just be any other South African. It had to be somebody who, when you look at his work, his upbringing, he also fits into the Nigerian story coming from a humble home and getting a scholarship to study. One thing he was good at was playing rugby, his size and you look at the Nigerian story where you find some awesome kids where they’re good at soccer, and that helps them through school and through life.
“We’re always thinking global. Our company is also on the international stage – America, UK. We are proudly African, we are proudly Nigerian, and we want them to know that there are great things coming out of Nigeria. And the best way to do it is to work with people who are Africans, their outlook is Africa.”
Healthgarde is owned by a woman and most of its consultants (distributors) are women. Bassey reiterated that “one of the biggest messages that we try to send in Healthgarde is that women also have a voice. And women can also participate in the home; they can also bring the bacon home and be their husband’s partner.
“They don’t have to be a burden to their husbands, the husband does not have to work till he drops dead, and the wife can contribute to the home and in some cases the wife may contribute more.
“Give women an outlet; an opportunity to thrive, they will take it and run with it. That’s what we are seeing in Nigeria, but I will tell you South Africa is more of a competition; they don’t let the women have anything, likewise in Uganda, the men are right there; toe to toe.”
Projecting into the future in the next five years to ensure that Healthgarde becomes the number one health supplement company in the country, Mrs. Lovelyn Bassey explained:
“The products that have been dominating in the past years since I was born are American, Chinese, European, but we have grown to be a force to reckon with in the network marketing of health supplements.
“Healthgarde products are pocket friendly with over 50,000 active independent consultants and distributors moving them to meet demands.
“Healthgarde is the first African and Nigerian owned major network marketing company in the world. You will not find another African owned major network marketing company anywhere.”
With a busy schedule and the demands of Healthgarde, coupled with managing the home front, Loveyln revealed the how, saying:
“When I travel to work, I concentrate absolutely on my work. When I am back, I play with my kids and do whatever is needed to be done at home.”
