The University Of Al Quaraouiyine located in the Fez, Morocco, is the oldest university not just in Africa but the entire world.
The university, which was founded by Fatima Al-Fihri as a mosque first, was established in 859 AD before subsequently becoming a place of learning and one of the world’s most important Islamic spiritual and education centres.
Some of this university alumni include; geographer, Muhammad Al-Idrisi and Jewish philosophical writer, Maimonides.
