A former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Imo State and member of its Board of Trustees, Dr. Alex Obi, is dead.
The deceased, popularly known as IKemba Mbaise, was aged 68.
A statement issued on Tuesday night by his family signed by his brother, Valentine Obi Snr and son, Alexander Obi Jnr respectively said he died on Sunday January 15, 2023 after a brief illness.
Obi, until his death was a chieftain of PDP, a former board Chairman, National Orthopedic Hospital Igbobi, Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi and member, National Business and Technical Examination Board, among others.
He was front runner in the Imo State governorship race under the defunct Social Democratic Party, and narrowly lost to late Evans Enwerem.
According to the family, the body of Dr. Alex Obi would be laid to rest on Friday, February 17, 2023 in his family compound at Oboama Enyiogugu, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State after a requiem mass at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Oboama Enyiogugu.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Orishetimeyin Obi, five children and siblings.
The chairman, Publicity Sub Committee of Dr. Alex Obi’s burial committee, Lambert Oparah, said the family welcomes condolence messages, solidarity and prayers from families, friends and well wishers.
