Yetunde Adeyinka is an Oyo State native who has never traveled to the South East but speaks Igbo fluently.
Adeyinka, who also goes by the Igbo name Nnenna, said she learned the language from her interactions with her mother’s Igbo customers.
According to her, she learned the language to be able to translate what her mother’s Igbo customers say when they want to buy goods because most of them do not speak English or Yoruba.
She also stated that she likes Igbos because they treat people well and that whenever she tries to buy something from an Igbo seller, they refuse to accept payment because she speaks their language.
