A company spokesperson who spoke with CNBC said the company is working on a ChatGPT-style of technology and it is currently being tested internally at the firm.
Alibaba, who said they started working on the generative AI since 2017, joins the growing number of tech firms including Google and Baidu to respond to OpenAI and Microsoft’s ChatGPT AI chatbot.
“As a technology leader, we will continue to invest in turning cutting-edge innovations into value-added applications for our customers as well as their end-users through cloud services,” an Alibaba spokesperson told CNBC.
The firm also hinted that its chatbot could be integrated into its existing products.
This announcement reportedly brought about a 3 percent soar in pre-market trade in the US although the firm hasn’t given a time line for its introduction.
Various tech companies are excited at the possible opportunities that could be unlocked by ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot created by OpenAI.
Earlier this week, Google announced tts artificial intelligence chatbot technology and another Chinese search giant Baidu said it was testing its own chatbot called “Ernie bot” in English or “Wenxin Yiyan” in Chinese.
ChatGPT is a form of artificial intelligence that can be used to create text or images. It is powered by a large language model, meaning it uses large swathes of data to understand and generate conversation, CNBC explained.
Users can ask ChatGPT questions on a wide variety of topics, write essays and even generate code.
