Oyo South senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the coming general elections and former Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Sharafadeen Alli, has promised to be the masses voice if elected on February 25.
Alli, who stated on Friday in Ibadan, Oyo State, while featuring at a guest platform organised by the state correspondents’ chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, said women and especially youths within his constituency would be given special attention if given elected to represent them at the National Assembly.
He said, “I will ensure employment opportunities and entrepreneurship training for the youth within my constituency. We will engage them in skills apart from quality education with the support from the Federal Government. I will also encourage entertainment and sports activities to attract foreign currency to boost the state economy.’’
On local government autonomy, the former SSG said the LG administration was dead in the state under the current administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.
Alli said, “It is a known fact that local governments are dead in Oyo State. This has been admitted by the governor. He gave them N10m and he said that they did not do anything with it.
“We have had local governments during Lam Adesina, Rashidi Ladoja, Adebayo Alao-Akala and even Abiola Ajimobi and it has not been like this. Local government exists just by number. It does not have any power to do anything. The primary healthcare centres are not functioning in the state, despite the fact that certain amount of money is budgeted for primary healthcare.’’
