In savouring the moment, family members, couples, and celebrities, among others, consolidated the bonds they share with their fans and loved ones.
While some people chose to enjoy the blissful moment in seclusion, away from the prying eyes of the public, some others, including celebrities whose lifestyle had become news for public consumption, were not out in the display of affection.
For comedian and actor, Ayodeji Makun, aka AY, he said he spent the day at home enjoying himself with his family, noting that celebration of love was an everyday affair in his household.
He said, “I am not doing Valentine; I am in my house with madam and there is no special thing. Celebration of love for us is every day, there is no special day just pinpointed for love. Yeah, we can mark it like other people but we are cool; we will sit at Netflix, chill, have drinks, fun, and eat, just like a family.”
Sharing his views on how he spent his Valentine’s Day, actor and reality TV star, Seyi Awolowo, in an exclusive chat with Midweek Entertainment, said the prevailing economic situation was not favourable to lovers, adding that the harsh political atmosphere compelled people to be prudent in spending and moving around.
Awolowo added, “Asides from gifting my boo, I would have loved to take the evening to eat out while listening to soft music as I share special moments but there is fuel scarcity.
“I do not want to be held hostage in some place because their PoS machine is not operating well. Hence, I would be making dinner at home and watching movies with the family as I prepare to resume a movie set in a couple of hours.”
Speaking with Midweek Entertainment, actress and singer, Jennifer Eliogu, while describing Valentine’s Day as a day of appreciation and love, noted that people should exhibit the attributes every day.
She said, “Valentine’s Day to me is like every other day. For people who are genuinely in love, every day should be Valentine’s. You don’t wait till one day in a year to celebrate love. It shouldn’t be just about couples, we should show love to neighbours, strangers, and everyone, including people in need.”
As for popular skit maker, Adebamiro Adeyanju, aka Mr Hyenana, he said he spent his day hosting an event and thereafter went to hang out with people in his inner circle.
“For me though, I would be hosting a Valentine’s Day event after which I would hang out with my loved one and my manager, Slasha; the people who have kept me active and happy. I believe I should show them love as I am not yet married because, after marriage, I too would use the red and white outfit to paint social media,” Mr Hyenana said.
Also commenting, Veteran actor Charles Anwurum, said, “I am praying for my loved ones in my house. I see Valentine’s Day as a period of remembering people who are close to you and good to you. It is a day you say thank you even if you don’t buy anything for them so they can continue to be good to you.
Midweek Entertainment also monitored the social media pages of celebrities to gather how they expressed love in celebration of Valentine’s Day.
Notably among the flurry of celebrities whose show of affection to their loved ones was made public included socialite, Obinna Iyiegbu, aka Obi Cubana, who thrilled his wife, Ebele, with a bouquet of 300 roses and other valuables.
Using her verified handle on Instagram, Obi Cubana’s wife, Ebele, shared a video clip that showed her husband expressing love to her on Tuesday.
In the video, she was seen untangling the bouquet of roses as Obi Cubana picked up one of the roses and stretched it towards his wife, who collected it from her loving husband. Other gifts were also seen beside the roses.
Commenting on the post, Ebele wrote, “So, I went downstairs to have my breakfast and came up to meet this surprise. Like I had no clue; you sure got me on this one. 300 roses wow. Thank you so much, my lover.”
Reacting, Obi Cubana wrote, “Fresh roses for you my love, forever.”
Also, actress and reality TV star, Beverly Osu, posted raunchy photos with a touch of red on her verified Instagram handle.
