The opposition also released video footage of the third attack on the country home of its first spokesperson, Ikenga Ugochinyere, by gunmen on February 7, 2023.
The co-spokesperson of CUPP, Mark Adebayo, at a press conference in Abuja, shown live on Television, accused the Imo State Government and police of the attacks.
He also called on the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, to immediately investigate the attack so as to unravel the mystery behind ‘unknown gunmen’ in Imo State
According to him, information available to CUPP showed that Governor Hope Uzodimma allegedly said he would carry his chair on the next election day and sit in Ideato to see how Ugochinyere who is contesting for the House Representative under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party would survive after all his own election is in November.
He said, “We demand that government officials particularly Governors should be restricted to their wards or where they registered to vote on election day to avoid intimidation of voters.
“It is on this note that we invite election observers, both domestic and foreign to note Ideato federal constituency election as a flash point that must be covered as there has been promise of bloodshed by the Governor of Imo State on the people of that constituency.
“Particularly, we invite the European Union, the United States Embassy, the British High Commission, Canadian Embassy and all other accredited observer groups to ensure they deploy to Ideato North and South Local Government Areas on February 25 2023.
“We also invite the National Security Adviser, Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the State Security Service and indeed all heads of security agencies and the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security to note Ideato as a flash point.
“We have made effort to let Nigerians see for themselves the video evidence of what we speak about. We will now try to play the video so that Nigerians will see for themselves. Having taken out all the CCTV they could see, they did not know there were other hi-tech devices that could not be seen but could see them.”
