This is even as he accused the party of trying to heat up the polity to cause panic and force the authorities to shift the timetable of the 2023 general elections.
Frank, who is known to be a loyalist of former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, made this allegation in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday.
His claim is coming hours after Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State ordered the arrest of the Deputy Director of Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, Adams Oshiomhole, over his alleged role in a protest that led to the vandalisation of some banks and the death of three persons in the state.
Obaseki, in a statement issued through his Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, claimed the former governor of the state mobilised thugs to cause a commotion over the lingering naira scarcity.
While alleging that the various protests against the cash squeeze sweeping across the country were sponsored, Frank called on the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to not succumb to APC’s subtle blackmail to postpone the general elections.
According to him, the ruling party is fuelling the crisis to enable them to perfect their vote-buying and rigging strategies ahead of the elections.
He said, “It is unfortunate that the APC has chosen a dangerous route to retain power by instigating killings and destruction of property by paid irate mobs protesting scarcity of new naira notes.
“I dare say that the country is more significant than any political party or party candidates. Instigating a crisis to provoke a postponement of the elections is least expected of the APC. Even though the riots seem localized in the southern parts of the country, we have information that very soon APC will cause it to spread to states in the North.
“This is to enable them to sustain their blackmail and pressure on the Independent National Electoral Commission and Buhari to postpone the elections under the guise of widespread violence.
“We condemn this resort to violence being masterminded by the APC and we call on all well-meaning Nigerians and international development partners not only to condemn these shenanigans by the ruling party but to hold it responsible for all deaths and properties being destroyed at this time as well as any postponement of the election.”
The former APC stalwart also called on the international community, especially election observers already deployed by statutory bodies to monitor the elections, to pressure the nation’s electoral body to hold the polls as scheduled.
Reacting, the Chief Spokesman of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo, said he won’t dignify Frank with a response until he provides concrete evidence to back his claim.
He said, “Timi Frank does not deserve any response from us. He is not to make reckless comments without backup.”
