Lancaster University, Ghana, has said teaching students how to write research in secondary school will help them perform excellently in research writing when in a tertiary institution.
Speaking at the opening of the new office located at the Nigeria Institute of Architects’ Building, Lagos, Chief Executive Officer, Transnational Academic Group, Mr Daniel Adkins, said Lancaster University, Ghana, said students did not know how to write research papers in university because they were not taught in secondary.
He stated that the world-class curriculum used by Lancaster University was encompassing, adding that the university was established to give an opportunity to African students to acquire international degrees without travelling outside the continent.
He said, “TAG partnered Lancaster University, Britain, to establish the campus in Ghana, and is looking at bringing top 200 universities in the world to places where others can also receive quality and world-class education.
“The Orient programme curriculum encourages students to keep the broad spectrum, it is student-focused, teaches problem-solving skills. It is an opportunity for students to write four research papers in secondary school, so when we get to the university they already know how to write a research paper. In many parts of the world, students do not write research papers in high school and when they get to the university they do not know how to write a research paper.”
He explained that TAG would bring the UK style of education, adding that it would help students learn the skills and knowledge to meet the nation’s industrial and societal needs.
“The other thing we are offering is the top 200 degrees, which enables the students to go do post-graduate degrees at highly ranked universities, this is because to get into a highly ranked, you generally need to have graduated from the top 200 top universities.
We are giving them the opportunity if they want to go the Oxford, Cambridge.”
Chief Strategy Officer, Mr Christopher Pilgrim, revealed the university and the group’s plan of setting up a TAG college in Nigeria to create an avenue for students to study abroad.
Pilgrim said the group would help those with financial means who want to study abroad, gain admission in one of their many partner universities across the globe with scholarships.
