The Kaduna State Government says it has disbursed over N600m to women entrepreneurs to boost their businesses under the state Women Empowerment Fund since its inception in 2019.
The state Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Hajiya Hafsat Mohammed-Baba, who disclosed this, however, decried the low recovery rate of the loan from beneficiaries.
She urged beneficiaries to hasten up and repay the loans to enable others to benefit from the gesture.
According to her, the N600m empowerment loans should not be taken as “a national cake.”
She said, “We have already given N200m in three circles, meaning we have already expended like N600m and we still have 400 million left to give out and it is in our budget.
“We hope that by 2023 and 2024, the circle will be completed when more women will access the remaining loan.
“We deliberately skipped for 2022 to avoid the allegation of vote buying and so the next administration will continue it.
“The challenge is that if you decide not to pay, there will be no room for your fellow women to access the same loan.
“A lot of women in these religious groups are beneficiaries. We are appealing to you to inform your members to pay back.”
