The Police Service Commission will deploy over 360 personnel to monitor the conduct of policemen on election duty during the forthcoming polls.
The spokesman for the commission, Ikechukwu Ani, who revealed this in a statement on Sunday, noted that the personnel would cover the 36 states of the federation as well as the Federal Capital Territory.
The commission also appointed national, zonal and state coordinators for the exercise, while warning that it would sanction any police officer involved in any form of misconduct before, during, or immediately after the elections.
“Dedicated telephone numbers for the public to report misconduct or exampled behaviour of police officers on duty have been provided to assist Nigerians in playing a significant role in enthroning civil participation in election policing,” Ani stated.
He added that the acting Chairperson of the PSC, Justice Clara Ogunbiyi, would be leading the commission’s delegation assisted by commissioners of police representing the six geo-political zones.
He stated, “The commission’s monitors will benchmark police conduct during the elections with the approved standard operational guidelines for police conduct.”
