The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Muhamad Bello, has presented laptop gifts to 100 students and teachers of some schools in the FCT for excellent performances at various competitions in 2022.
The minister, who was represented by the permanent secretary of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Adesola Olusade, while presenting the gifts, expressed delight at the representation of various age groups, schools, and area councils, of the awardees.
Bello hailed the achievements of the students and their teachers, noting that the achievements could not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the students, as well as the commitment of the teachers to their duty.
“We have the awardees cutting across all the age brackets in the school system. This speaks volume as to the capability of our teachers and the good work you are doing. That is why some of our teachers also received awards, because the system has come to realise and appreciate the fact that the students did not become what they are without the teacher.
“Always remember that you could not have benefitted from this if you did not work hard, and it always pays to work hard”, he said
Earlier in his address, the Education Secretary, Sani El-Katuzu, thanked the FCT administration for supporting the secretariat, adding that the achievements were possible through the prioritised welfare of teachers by the administration, which in turn provided the support needed for the growth and development of education in the FCT.
El-Katuzu explained that the 100 students had won the various awards in fields of academics, and social and sporting activities, noting that the winners emerged from both public and private schools in the junior and senior categories.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Anyanwu John, from Loyola Jesuit College, who won the first prize at the 774 Young Nigerian Presidential Award, attributed the successes of the students to the efforts of their teachers, parents and other support systems within the FCT.
Also present at the event were the Chief of Staff to the FCT minister, Bashir Mai-Bornu, the Director, Department of Human Resources Management, Dr Bashir Muhammed, and other senior officials of the FCTA.
