The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has declared that becoming the governor of Bayelsa State again is not an ambition to him as he has occupied the seat before.
He also said he was not desperate for the seat.
He, however, stated that there was pressure on him to contest the governorship election because many people believed he still had a lot to contribute to the development of the state.
Sylva, who stated these during a press conference at his residence in Yenagoa on Thursday, said Bayelsa was not progressing in terms of development, as the state was plagued by several problems, especially flooding, erosion and lack of power and human capital development.
Sylva was the governor of the state on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party from 2007 to 2008 when his election was nullified by the court.
He won a re-run, which saw him through to 2012, when he lost a return ticket and defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Sylva said he was surprised to learn in the media that some of his friends had gone to buy the governorship form for him.
He added, “There has been a lot of pressure on me to come back to Bayelsa State because a lot of people feel that I still have a lot to contribute to the development of Bayelsa State. There is a lot to do as you can see.
“But serious speaking, I am still consulting. I am still reaching out because for me, the development of Bayelsa State is not one man’s project. And you will understand with me that, today, to become the governor of Bayelsa State is not an ambition to me. It is something that I have attained before. It is nothing that I really want to do anything to achieve by every means.”
