Hurriyah Lawal, wife of Zamfara State Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate, Dauda Lawal, reportedly escaped a gun attack, while returning to Gusau, the state capital.
However, policemen in the convoy of Mrs Lawal were said to be unlucky, as they were allegedly hit by the assailants’ bullets.
A report had alleged that the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday when Mrs Lawal was returning to Gusau, the state capital.
Her convoy was said to have been involved in a clash with the state anti-thuggery operatives.
Speaking on a Channels TV report, Imran Ahmad, media aide to Mrs Lawal, also alleged that the attackers were Zamfara State anti-thuggery operatives.
The Commander of the state anti-thuggery agency, Bello Bakyasuwa, while speaking on the incident, denied the policemen were shot by his men.
He said operatives of the agency were on a patrol when they were attacked by some suspected political thugs around 12am on Friday.
Bakyasuwa said, “Yes, our operatives were attacked in the early hours of Friday; they were on a patrol when some thugs in a convoy started shouting “Karya ne” (it is a lie) and started shooting at the anti-thuggery operatives. We didn’t have a choice but to retaliate.”
He added that two of the thugs had been arrested and were in custody.
The state police command promised to issue a statement on the incident when contacted for comments
