A popular comedienne, Anita Asuoha, aka Real Warri Pikin, has said her experience with depression made her to expect less from people.
In an interview with Saturday Beats, she said, “Overcoming depression made me not to expect too much from people. Nobody owes me anything and I do not feel entitled anymore, unlike before. I used to think that if I was friends with someone and I had been there for that person, they also ought to be there for me. But, I have learnt that if one helps people, one should expect help from God; not the people one helped. I now understand life better and I am more emotionally intelligent.”
Speaking on the challenges she faces as an actress, Asuoha said, “One of the things I find challenging is location, because I live in Abuja. It makes producers (outside Abuja) to consider flight (expenses) before giving me jobs. Also, staying in one place (to shoot) for about a week when the pay is not encouraging is another issue. Meanwhile, I can make that money by just making a one-minute video or hosting an event. However, it is all about the love one has for the craft.”
Reliving her motherhood experience, Warri Pikin said, “Motherhood is a full-time job. I feel it is the most taxing job on earth, but also the most rewarding. It is a combination of bitter and sweet experiences with ups and downs. People are not born to be mothers; it is learnt. One can be a good person and be a bad parent. Motherhood is a skill; and it has taught me to be patient and to listen more than I talk.”
