Some elderly voters in Ekiti State on Saturday joined the queues at the various polling units, saying they decided to cast their votes during the Presidential and National Assembly elections for the betterment of the country.
Among the voters, two female septuagenarians expressed optimism for a better Nigeria as the reason for coming out to vote.
A 75-year-old woman, Mrs Felicia Oladunjoye, who voted at Iyin II Alayanrun compound in Iyin Ekiti, told our correspondent that she wanted a better Nigeria.
She said, “It took about three minutes to be captured and to vote. I voted for Nigeria to be better. I voted for the emergence of a kind-hearted leader.”
Similarly, 74-year-old Mrs Maryann Ogundele, who cast her vote at Iyin 1, Unit 003, Registration Area 010, Iyin Ekiti, also hailed the peaceful conduct of the poll at her unit.
Ogundele added, “I participated in this election for the betterment of the country. I expect that the election will bear good fruit for the country. Everything has been peaceful.”
In another unit, the Nigerian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Dr Eniola Ajayi, lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission for the use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System. She however demanded a transparent collation of results.
“The election was peaceful, orderly and well-organised,” said Nigerian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Dr Eniola Ajayi, who voted in Ward A, Unit 18, Iyin Ekiti. “The BVAS worked perfectly for me. It took me less than two minutes and maybe another minute to vote. I will urge INEC as an unbiased empire to do the needful in terms of collation and other processes.”
