Ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau in later this month, Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, has been handed a major boost after English Premier League side, Brentford, announced that midfielder Frank Onyeka has been cleared to return to action.
The Nigeria international was given the medical green light by club’s doctors to return to competitive football and will be available for Monday’s game against Fulham.
The 25-year-old midfielder last featured for Brentford in November last year in their 2-1 win against Manchester City where he played for 87 minutes and has been out since then with a hamstring injury.
Ahead of today’s game against Fulham at the Gtech Community Stadium, Brentford in a statement on their website announced that the Nigerian was available for selection.
“Frank Onyeka and Pontus Jansson are both in contention for Monday’s match,” a club statement read.
“The pair haven’t featured in 2023 due to respective hamstring injuries but could return for the visit of Fulham.”
The announcement will come as good news for Eagles’ who is set to announce his squad list for the upcoming double-header clash against the Djurtus.
Onyeka received his first call-up for Nigeria in September 2020 for the friendly matches against Algeria and Tunisia in Austria in October 2020.
Nigeria currently top their Group A with six points following wins over Sierra Leone in Nigeria before thrashing Sao Tome and Principe 10-0 away from home.
Victories in the double header clash against Guinea-Bissau will see the three-time Africa champions pick the ticket to Ivory Coast next year.
