The Civil Societies Directorate, an arm of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, has praised Nigerians for not allowing the opposition to incite them into violence following the outcome of the February 25 poll.
The PCC accolade was a reaction to Monday’s protest march to the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and several aggrieved chieftains of the PDP.
Reactions have continued to trail the outcome of the presidential election where Tinubu polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the LP flag bearer, who got 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes respectively.
Unimpressed by the results, both Obi and Atiku had vowed to seek legal option to reclaim their mandate.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday evening, the Secretary of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and a member of the PCC Civil Societies, Okpokwu Ogenyi, condemned the attempt by the opposition leaders to incite Nigerians into chaos and anarchy.
The PCC Civil Societies was the directorate headed by the former Director of the Tinubu-Shettima campaign, Naja’atu Mohammed before she decamped to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
Ogenyi, who noted that the people have accepted the outcome of the presidential election, added that no Nigerian will agree to be coaxed into causing chaos in the country.
He said, “I want to add that no Nigerian will agree to be coaxed into causing chaos. We saw what happened yesterday where some elements of the opposition, who are supposed to be elder statesmen, took to the street in protest.
“They even called on Nigerians to join them but Nigerians disappointed them because they have come to terms with the reality. We want to appreciate Nigerians and encourage them to continue to stand on the truth. As a Civil Society Organisation, we will always be the watchdog of the society, we will be there always to guide the conscience of society.”
In a similar vein, the convener of the group, Dr Ene Ogbole, disclosed that no real and patriotic Nigerian will join the opposition to cause a crisis against Nigerians.
According to her, the fact that certain people did not win the just concluded presidential election does not mean the country should be thrown into anarchy.
“Nigeria was there before they came and Nigeria will continue after them. If we truly believe in Nigeria’s project and a dream of building a better society, we will not in turn want to destroy that which we want to build because some people lost the election.
“I want to thank Nigerians for rebuffing the call for chaos. We will reject any call to disintegrate our country, we will reject any call to ruin our country, we will reject any call to destroy us. Asiwaju Tinubu is the man God has ordained.
“We also want to thank INEC in particular for a job well done. There is nowhere in the world where elections are done devoid of hitches. Nigeria is not an exception. We are not unaware of the movement of some elements we called themselves Patriots, I do not like to use abusive words on personalities,” she said.
