Ghanaian player, Paul Acquah, continued his sensational run for Rivers United on the continent, scoring a hat-trick in their 3-1 win over Congolese side, Motema Pembe, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on Thursday.
Hero on match-day three where he scored the only goal in Rivers’ 1-0 win in Luanda, Acquah picked up from where he left off as his three goals ensured the Nigerian club completed the double over the Congolese and stay top of Group B.
The Ghanaian superstar opened the scoring just before the break with a header off Williams Ukeme’s free kick and added the second with another super effort 10 minutes into the second half.
Acquah completed his hat-trick with a sublime finish in stoppage time after Mydo Yallet had halved the deficit for the visitors to inspire the Pride of Rivers to their third win in four matches in Group B.
He has now scored four goals in his last two matches, taking his tally to four goals in four matches for Rivers United in the competition.
With the win, Rivers United restored their two-point lead at the top of the table with nine points after four matches. ASEC Mimosas are second on seven points while Pembe are rooted to the bottom of the group with just two points in four matches.
