It would be recalled that Sanwo-Olu was delcared winner of the Lagos state Governorship election held on Saturday, March 18, after he polled a total of 762134 votes to defeat Labour Party’s Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour and Jandor of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
Following the declaration, he took to Twitter to appreciate the good people of Lagos state for re-electing him into office, and reemphasized his commitment to serve them.
He posted photos of himself and his party members celebrating after his re-election and wrote,
“Thank you Lagosians!
I am deeply humbled and grateful for the overwhelming support and trust of the good people of Lagos State. I am honored to be re-elected as your Governor and pledge to continue to work tirelessly to deliver a better Lagos for all.
Thank you for believing in me.
I have personally penned my thoughts in a letter to you. I hope you read it and truly feel my passion for Lagos and for you
These elections have deeply tested us as a people. This victory is not just mine, but it belongs to every Lagosian.”
The tweet didn’t sit well with many, including rapper Falz, due to the events that unfolded during the election last Saturday.
Recall that there were reports of intimidation, tribal discrimination, and thuggery in different parts of the state, allegedly perperated by the ruling party.
In the light of this, Falz, reacting to Sanwo-Olu’s tweet, wrote,
“You were not re-elected. You selected yourself. Everybody saw it unfold. You are only deceiving yourselves.”
