Parading the suspects at the Command’s headquarters in Lafia, on Friday,
alongside 19 others, also arrested for various crimes in the state,
the Commissioner of Police, Maiyaki Baba, said the armed robbers had been giving residents of the area, sleepless nights, before they were tracked down by its operatives.
Maiyaki Baba said: “On 15/03/2023 at about 8:45pm, based on credible information about some suspected armed robbery suspects who have been on the wanted list of the Command for various offences, Police operatives attached to Masaka Division were deployed to their hide out, located at Angwan Police, Masaka where the duo of Isaac David, 20 years and Glean Kennedy, 22 years were arrested.
“Consequently, one locally fabricated Berretta pistol was recovered from them as exhibit; and upon cross-examination, the suspects confessed to have carried out many armed robbery operations within Masaka and environs,” he disclosed.
The CP also paraded two other suspects who were allegedly planning to kill one Mr. Ali Misalam before they were arrested by the police.
He narrated that the suspects tried to kill Misalam for allegedly initiating their mother into witchcraft.
He noted further: “On 11/03/2023 at about 5:40pm, a complaint was lodged at Toto Division that, a gang of two men, armed with dangerous weapons were sighted, while attempting to kill one Ali Misalam ‘M’ of Toto LGA.
“Reacting to the unpleasant development, Police operatives attached to Toto Division swiftly raced to the scene where the duo of Peche Misalam and promise Jacob were arrested. One locally made gun, one pistol, and two live cartridges were recovered from the suspects as exhibit.
“Upon interrogation, the suspects admitted to have conspired in order to kill the victim because he initiated their mother into witch craft before nemesis caught up with them,” the police boss added.
While warning all criminal elements to flee Nasarawa State without further delay, the Commissioner of Police said the 21 suspects will be charged to court for prosecution upon conclusion of investigation at the Police Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia, the state capital.
