Coach of Doma United, Akinade Onigbinde, has hailed his players after the hard-fought 2-1 win over Niger Tornadoes at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe, despite some of them observing the Ramadan fasting.
Musa Usman opened the score for the hosts in the 29th minute from the spot, but Mark Daniel restored parity for the visiting Tornadoes two minutes after the break.
However, Charles Chibuike’s 76th minute winner sent home fans into wild jubilations on match-day 12.
“Most of them are fasting. Some of our key players fast and it is not easy, but they still put their best to come back. We are up now. Hopefully we are going to Dakadda for our next game to pick something there,” he said.
“I feel very great. The boys played well. They are good, wonderful and ready players. We were one goal ahead, came back and got the final winner. We thank God for the success.
“It is a great one. We will keep working hard till we get there. Top 6 is our aim and we will get there.
“The officiating is good and all the teams are trying to perform well. There is no bias officiating.”
On his part, Niger Tornadoes coach Umar Farouk said, “It was a very competitive game. It was a good fight. Both teams gave good account of themselves and I like the spirit of Doma.
“We had a game plan. They are a good side also. They picked a draw away and we know they wanted to come home and consolidate. Unfortunately, at the end of the game, they took the day.”
