Three passengers, on Tuesday, lost their lives in a crash on the expressway by Government Technical College, in the Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that after the crash, the vehicle went up in flames and no fewer than 13 other passengers sustained varying degrees of injury and were rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for treatment.
The spokesman for the state Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident, said the crash involved a commercial vehicle with number plate XE 222 TRN in transit from the Ajingi Local Government Area to Kofar Wambai within the metropolis.
According to him, the agency received an emergency call from one Muktar Yusuf, alerting the service that there was a fire outbreak on the state road, involving a commercial vehicle with 18 passengers onboard.
Furthermore, Abdullahi disclosed that three females, Zeenai Babji, Surayya Umar, and a yet-to-be-identified passenger, lost their lives during the unfortunate incident, while 13 others suffered varying degrees of injury, and were rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for treatment.
However, Saminu said the driver of the ill-fated bus, 35-year-old Muhammed Gali, alongside his conductor, Hassan Danladi, who were unhurt had been handed over to a policeman, Inspector Abubakar Ahmad, of the Nassarawa Police Division, for further investigation.
While attributing the cause of the accident to speeding, Abdullahi advised motorists to always drive with caution to prevent any unfortunate disaster in future.
