The graduate of Nile University won the sponsorship after emerging as the winner of the entrepreneurship contest organized by Honoris United Universities—which is the first and largest pan-African private higher education network—in July 2022 as part of its 5th-anniversary celebrations.
Thomas’ tech start-up, TAJ Agrotech Enterprises Limited, which he co-founded with his colleague, Jarigbe A. Agom, a current PhD student of Computer Science at the Nile University of Nigeria, was chosen as the top entrepreneurial venture out of the numerous entries from Nile University in the keenly contested competition.
TAJ Agrotech Enterprises Ltd.is an agri-business enterprise that aims to deploy technology-based systems for the marketing and distribution of farm products, assisting local farmers to complete their farming production circle, make profits, and reap the full benefits of their labor from the processing stage of farm produce to finished goods.
Speaking on his experience during the 25th anniversary and silver jubilee celebration of the Harvard Africa Business Conference, which was themed “Africa Accelerated: Leaps and Bounds into the Next Decade”, Thomas said,
“My participation at the Harvard Africa Business Conference exposed me to the latest trends and changes in the industry and the African continent and also gave me new insights and deepened my knowledge of business ventures, which will prove invaluable in my entrepreneurial journey.”
He spoke highly of the networking opportunities the conference provided him, stating “I had the opportunity to meet and network with some of the most influential people in the world, including the Chairman of Metis Capital Partners Professor Hakeem Bello-Osagie, who expressed their commitment to driving the African continent forward. We discussed the potential of Africa as a business hub and I gained valuable insight into the African business landscape and what it takes for a business to be successful on the continent. I believe that the knowledge I gained from these discussions will be highly beneficial to me in my business and future endeavors.”
