A sound designer, Shiloh Godson, has said that though people are only usually familiar with actors, there are many more people who work behind the scenes to make sure a movie comes out well.
In an interview with Sunday Scoop, he said, “To be fair to the audience, it is the actors that they see. That is why everyone talks mostly about actors. Even the producers who make the movies, hire the directors and pay the actors are mostly unknown.
“However, being behind the scenes and making all the ‘magical’ manoeuvres with sounds have been worth the while for me as a sound designer. We are usually saddled with the responsibility of leaving movie enthusiasts with lasting impressions. Being a sound engineer is a job I am proud of because we are critical to good movie productions.”
Giving an insight into what his job entails, Godson said, “I think everyone with an ability to hear has almost certainly heard a door open in a movie. In certain movies, viewers have felt a bit of trepidation when their favourite actor tried opening the door of a haunted or scary house. The creaking of doors in a horror film would make people feel scared; same as the hissing of snakes in films.”
Speaking on his current projects, Godson, who is the brain behind Hush Sounds, noted that he was writing the music score for a captivating movie. “The movie is about Africans adapting to life in the United States of America. It is a relevant story, because I have had friends who had similar issues to those highlighted in the film.”
