The General Leader, Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church, Surulere District Headquarters, Prophet Sunday Korode, has called on aggrieved politicians to give peace a chance while the younger citizens should desist from clamouring for unrest in the country as a result of the outcome of the recently-concluded general elections.
The cleric made the call during a press briefing on Monday in Lagos to herald the 50th anniversary of the church’s choir.
The choir’s 50th anniversary is with the theme: “In His Presence.”
Korode, who was represented by the Deputy District General Secretary, Benjamin Alaka, said the country had come of age and could not afford to plunge into crisis at this time when there is relative peace.
He said, “The country is not a young country again; we are 63 years old and we have also fought a war. It is enough for everyone to learn from.
“If the young ones have not seen a war, let them ask the elders. Thank God some of us were alive then, it was not a tasteful experience. What we are saying is that this country is evolving and we are going to get there one day. If we hold an election and we need to perfect what needs to be perfected, it takes a gradual process. Therefore, we must allow peace to reign so that we can move forward.”
Alaka further stated that the music and messages of the church had become a social responsibility to the nation, especially when it is faced with different challenges.
“The choir has well over 40 record albums to her credit, popular among which is ‘Lehin Jesu Ko S’enikan,’ which today we have seen several versions of it being sung as worship, as acapella and so many other evergreens.
On his part, the choir leader, Gbemi Ladejobi, said the clamour for war ahead of the May 19 inauguration should not be taken seriously.
He said, “We are sure that as we keep going, things will improve. I am talking about those who are clamouring for war and that May 29 inauguration will not be feasible and all sorts of claims. I see it as a joke because our Lord is there for us.”
The Church Secretary, Prophet Oluseyi Coker, said the nation is governed by laws and the political elites should play by the rules.
The anniversary, which started with the launch of a logo in October 2022, will climax with a thanksgiving on Sunday, April 23. The choir day will be held on Saturday, April 15, on the church premises.
