The Chief Imam of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Prof. Nasiru Abdus- Salam, has warned Muslims against making reckless utterances during Ramadan so that their fast will not be invalidated.
The cleric, in an interview with our correspondent, explained that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) warned against making reckless utterances during the month of Ramadan.
According to the Imam of UNILORIN, Allah has nothing to do with a Muslim’s fast, when such a Muslim is not mindful of his speech or when he engages in quarrel during Ramadan.
The cleric added that apart from eating and drinking, having sexual intercourse during the day of Ramadan could also invalidate one’s fast.
He said, “Things that can invalidate one’s fast include reckless talks, quarrelling, because there’s a tradition that says, whoever is not mindful of his speech, Allah has nothing to do with his fast. The month is the month of forgiveness but, Allah will not forgive those who quarrel, and essentially, one should not have sexual intercourse in the day.
“One should not steal, one should be mindful of one’s tongue and other things that can void one’s fast; one should avoid the gathering of people that are committing sins. These are the things that can reduce the value of a Muslim’s fast.”
The Imam also noted that without praying, a Muslim would not have full reward for their fast.
