According to the terms of reference, which was read by the Secretary of State Government, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, at the deputy governor’s banquet hall, the committee would carry out a wide public enlightenment and sensitisation campaign on the 2023 National Population and Housing Census.
Njodi disclosed that the committee was expected to devise and implement effective strategies to assist the NPC produce accurate and reliable census data.
“Recommend reasonable and affordable logistics and security assistance to be extended to the NPC.
“Supervise, monitor, guide and give directions to the Local publicity and logistics committees and recommend/ carry out any other activity that will assist the NPC in realising its overarching vision to produce accurate, reliable and acceptable data of the state,” Njodi said.
On his part, Jatau commended his committee members for being nominated, adding that census was imperative for the attainment of development.
He decried that despite being a digital census since human beings were expected to control, those inadequacies may be a far cry.
Jatau said, “Much as the digital census is not likely to eliminate previous bottles such as political, religious and cultural sentiments associated with accurate census in the country over the years. We should note that it is human beings that control and sometimes manipulate these machines that were meant for ease of carrying out tasks, jobs more accurately, with great precision.”
