The Lagos State Sports Commission has celebrated the 2023 edition of the International Day of Sports for Development and Peace with a three-day sports competition for students from 14 junior and senior secondary schools (both private and public) across the six education districts in the state.
The event, in partnership with Sports Global Ambassador Initiatives for Youth Development and Conflict Resolution, was designed to encourage youths to get more involved in sporting activities because of the inherent benefits as well as bridging the gap between public and private schools.
According to a statement issued by the Lagos State Government, this was disclosed by the Executive Chairman, LSS, Sola Aiyepeku, in his address at the commencement of the event held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, in the Surulere area of the state.
In his remarks, Executive Trustee of Ambassador Initiatives for Youth Development and Conflict Resolution, Ndidi Edeoghon, said the 2023 event had brought together students from different schools to foster a united environment that will engender tolerance, conflict resolution and raise the standard for collaboration.
The statement read in part, “Part of the activities of the three-day event was the athletics competition held at Caleb British International School, Abijo Lekki, Lagos. The competition featured participants from Oreyo Junior and Senior Secondary Schools, Ijaiye; United Junior and Senior Secondary Schools, Lekki; Pinefield Schools, Lekki; Whitesand Schools, Lekki and Corona Schools, Agbara, among others.
