The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, in charge of the Rebuild Lagos Trust Fund, Mr Jimi Hotonu, on Wednesday said there will be a demolition of the remaining part of the Igbosere High Court next week.
He said that the exercise demolition was for the commencement of phase two of the reconstruction of the court burnt during the #EndSARS protest on October 20, 2020.
Hotonu who spoke during a phone interview with our correspondent said the work had been awarded to a contractor who would demolish it to pave way for the piling works for project’s phase two.
He said the foundation had been done being the most critical part of the building.
He stated that one thing that is to their advantage is that they would be coming out of the foundation before the rains so they are relatively on course and the quality of work is also fantastic.
He added that there was a slight delay of two weeks, noting that initial delay in any construction meant that there must be a synergy between the consultant and contractor for the contractor to get adequate information and procure materials needed for the project.
He stated, “The demolition of the phase two buildings will start probably sometime next week because last week we handed over that to the demolition contractor. We allowed this week for the removal of valuable materials in the building before the contractor moves in to start his work. There was a slight delay in ordering some of the important materials that will be needed. That was where the delay came from. But we have overcome that now and we are trying to make up for the lost time.
“I can’t give any figure that has been used for the foundation. It’s a complete deal and it is still ongoing. We have not completed the foundation but I will be happy to continually give you information as we make progress. There will be demolition for phase two because where phase two will stand, there is a building there now and it is about to come down. It has been awarded to a contractor that who will demolish it so that it can pave way for the piling works for the project’s phase two.’’
The permanent secretary said the reason for doing that was to ensure that the piling work had no effect on the structure of phase one of the building.
