The Olowo of Owo land, Ondo State, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, has presented some security patrol vehicles to the state police command to assist the command in fighting insecurity in the area.
The gesture comes a week after the St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, reopened for service after 10 months of being shut down following the Sunday, June 5, 2022 terror attack, during which 41 worshippers were killed while no fewer than 69 others were injured.
The Olowo of Owo land, during the presentation of the vehicles to the Owo Police Division, called on the Federal Government to forestall a future attack on the community and in the state in general.
According to the monarch, the vehicles were provided courtesy of the World Council of Owo Association in the United States of America to boost security operations in the locality.
Oba Ogunoye said, “Last year, we experienced what we had never experienced before. The attackers ran away, but we heard some culprits had been arrested. There is lack of mobility for the Nigeria police in Owo. Before the attack, I was aware of the problem.
“I made a request to our sons and daughters about the problem. I requested for two vehicles, but they brought four to enhance security around here. We believe the vehicles would be put to good use. I believe this will go a long way in curbing crimes and criminal activities around Owo.”
In his remarks, a former President of the World Council of Owo Association in the United States of America, Mr Idris Adenishin, said the association responded to the request by the monarch to support security operations in Owo.
“We knew about the security challenges the police have been having in Owo, especially the non-availability of vehicles. We met and decided to provide these vehicles to support the police,” Adenishin stated.
