The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for the Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency of Bayelsa State, Rodney Ambaiowei, as the winner of the supplementary election conducted on Saturday.
The commission also declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Obein Godknows, as the winner of the supplementary polls for the Ogbia Constituency 2 in the State House of Assembly.
Both Ambaiowei and Godknows were announced winners at the state INEC office in Yenagoa, where the collation of results for the rescheduled balloting for the two constituencies was done.
While Ambaiowei defeated the incumbent lawmaker representing the Southern Ijaw federal constituency in the National Assembly, Preye Oseke of the APC, Godknows won the current occupant of the Ogbia constituency 2 seat in the state assembly, Munalayefa Gibson of the PDP.
The commission’s returning officer for the Southern Ijaw federal constituency and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Otuoke, Chris Onyema, said that Ambaiowei polled 13,992 votes, Oseke scored 12,992 votes and Labour Party’s Sikpi Ebipaepere got 498 votes.
For Ogbia constituency 2, INEC’s returning officer, Prof. Ohakwe Johnson, also of the FUO, said that Godknows polled 5, 291 votes, Gibson scored 4, 342 votes while AA party’s Aseimo Dararikparo got 75 votes.
With the outcome of the supplementary polls, the PDP has won all the Bayelsa seats in the Senate and House of Representatives, while the APC has five out of the seven opposition seats in the state House of Assembly.
