A member of the House of Representatives from Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency, Oyo State, Shina Peller, has called on the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to increase the budgetary allocation to the creative industry to ensure its optimal performance.
Peller made the call, according to a statement on Saturday, in a video he shared on his social media handles while he moved a motion on the floor of the House for the urgent need to strengthen Nigeria’s creative industry.
He added that Nigeria’s creative industry contributes significantly to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product and offers legitimate employment to youths.
Peller said, “As Nigeria transitions into a new government, I urge the incoming administration to increase the budgetary allocation of the Ministry of Information and Culture in the 2024 Appropriation Act for optimal performance in the nation’s creative industry.
“This is an industry that contributes significantly to the nation’s GDP, offering legitimate employment to people, thereby making it the second largest employer of labor after agriculture.”
