Britain’s Got Talent is a televised British talent show competition created by Simon Cowell and part of the global Got Talent franchise.
Britain’s Got Talent, popularly called BGT show, was originally intended to begin in 2005, however, filming was suspended and premiered on June 9, 2007.
The original plan for the show was for it to be aired between 2005 and 2006, with Paul O’Grady presenting the programme under the title, Paul O’Grady’s Got Talent, after having hosted the pilot.
However, complications arose when O’Grady was involved in a row with ITV (a British free-to-air public broadcast television network) and refused to appear on another of the broadcaster’s programmes, eventually defecting to Channel 4 – a British free-to-air public broadcast television channel.
It was produced by production companies, Thames and Syco Entertainment, distributed by Fremantle, and broadcast on ITV and currently has a viewing figure of 9.9 million viewers per series.
However, until June 2019, the programme had been moved to online platforms
A former mobile phone salesman and opera singer, Paul Potts, became the first winner of Britain’s Got Talent in 2007.
Annually, contestants of any age can audition for the televised contest with whatever talent they wish to demonstrate.
While the participants make effort to perform excellently as a panel of judges watch, they also strive to ensure getting a place in the live rounds of the contest.
During the live rounds stage, participants give their best to get kudos from the public and judges. The impression from the public and judges secures their votes to reach the final and get a chance to win a cash prize and be placed in that year’s performances for the Royal Variety Performance before members of the British Royal Family.
On Sunday, April 15, BGT returned for its second episode of the 2023 series as viewers were treated to an abundance of entertaining acts. As is usually the case, judges decided who to take through to the next round of the competition.
Show fans were left shocked when one of the hopefuls set himself on fire as he attempted to complete a Rubik’s Cube.
Mail Online reports that the second instalment saw head judge Simon select his Golden Buzzer auditionee – choirboy Malakai Bayoh, 13 – with the singer moving the panel to tears while fans at home took to social media to demand he wins the £250,000 prize and take to the stage in front of King Charles and Queen Camilla at the Royal Variety Performance later this year.
The present judges of BGT are Simon Cowell, 63, Amanda Holden, 52, Alesha Dixon, 44, and newcomer Bruno Tonioli, 67,
Between 2007 and 2022, the show had 15 winners, including musicians, magicians, dancers and comedians.
